Charles and Ray Eames used these wire-based tables in their home during a tea ceremony that included Isamu Noguchi and Charlie Chaplin (pictured here). Noguchi and the Eameses were friends and contemporaries who shared a mutual respect and admiration for each other’s work. During the 1950’s there was an open exchange of ideas. The use of new forms and materials resulted in designs which complemented each other well. Charles and Ray used Noguchi’s Akari Light Sculpture in their landmark house and studio in Santa Monica, and likewise, Noguchi chose Eames chairs for use in his house and studio in Long Island City.
